Official Statistics refer to demographic, economic, social, environmental and other information disseminated by government statistical agencies. Moreover, official statistics are to be objective, scientific, timely and accurate.
In accordance with Decree Law 62/96/M, information compiled by the organisations of statistics compilation within the Statistical Information System of Macao (SIEM), i.e. the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) and the Macao Monetary Authority (AMCM), is considered to be official statistics. Collection, compilation, maintenance and dissemination of official statistical information by the organisations of statistics compilation should conform to professional, scientific and ethnical standards. Besides, statistics produced by other organisations and associations can be regarded as official statistics only when they are authorized to do so by the official statistical agencies and information compiled has obtained prior approval from DSEC; information that fails to meet the above two requirements are not considered as official statistics.
